What is a life event?

A life event (LE) is a change like getting married, having a baby, or losing health coverage that can make you eligible for a Special Enrollment period. These periods allow you to enroll in health insurance outside the annual Open Enrollment period. You will have 30 days from the date of the life event to make the change and submit the required documentation.

An LE is a major event that changes a person’s status or circumstance, such as:

A change in your legal marital status (i.e., marriage, legal separation, divorce, or death of your spouse)

The birth or adoption of a child, or the placement of a child for adoption

The death of a dependent

A change in employment status (for the employee, employee’s spouse, or employee’s dependent)

Qualifying LEs allow you to update your medical, dental, vision, and flexible spending plans within 30 days of the event.

To update your benefits after a qualifying LE, go to UKG Pro.

Myself  > Benefits   > Manage My Benefits  > Update My Benefits

Select the appropriate LE (e.g., a marriage, a birth, etc.) and enter the date of the event (e.g., your date of marriage, the date your divorce was finalized, etc.).

Add or remove any family members (e.g., a spouse, a child, or a married child) impacted by the LE, then click on “Shop for Benefits.”

After all benefits have been viewed or changed, click “Review & Checkout.” The LE will not be processed until after any applicable documents you upload are verified.
