Visit ARUP at booth #1180 to connect with our experts, learn about the latest in testing for blood disorders, and test your diagnostic skills.
ARUP medical directors and scientists will showcase their latest research at the upcoming American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting and Exposition, which will take place from December 6 through 9, 2025, in Orlando, Florida.
Tracy George, MD, ARUP chief scientific officer, president of the Innovation Business Unit, and medical director of Hematopathology, will provide an update on the findings of the Summit trial—a clinical study designed to evaluate the effectiveness of bezuclastinib in patients with the full spectrum of nonadvanced systemic mastocytosis and the effects of bezuclastinib on the pathobiology of mastocytosis.
ARUP Laboratories’ central pathology review service has also provided key support to the study by facilitating confirmation of diagnosis and biomarker data to assess therapy response in study participants.
George, a renowned expert on systemic mastocytosis (SM), has created two online video lectures that describe the diagnosis of SM, one for hematologists and pathologists and one for allergists and immunologists. The video lectures discuss classification systems for mastocytosis, SM subtypes, immunohistochemistry and molecular diagnosis of SM, and the challenges of diagnosis that clinicians may encounter.
The video lectures are available online and offer free continuing education credit, including continuing medical education (CME).
George will also present on the clinical impact of the World Health Organization (WHO) criteria on smoldering SM identification. Through a retrospective analysis of the PIONEER study, George has evaluated the impact of the new diagnostic criteria on SM subtype diagnosis.
Peng Li, MD, PhD, will conduct a scientific workshop, “Genetic and Clinical Landscape of Cytopenia in Adults With Late-Onset Telomere Biology Disorders and Interstitial Lung Disease,” on Friday, December 5.
Malia Deshotel, PhD, will provide an update on testing for hereditary alpha-tryptasemia (HαT) and TPSAB1 copy number analysis by droplet digital polymerase chain reaction (PCR). ARUP launched the TPSAB1 copy number analysis assay last year. Deshotel will discuss the genotype and phenotype findings based on test result data.
Anna Shestakova, MD, PhD, has developed a white paper resource, “Testing for Hereditary α-Tryptasemia: TPSAB1 Copy Number Analysis by Droplet Digital Polymerase Chain Reaction,” which examines the role of HαT in the diagnosis and prognosis of SM. The white paper is available here.
Muir Morrison, PhD, will describe the development of an attention-based, multiple-instance learning (ABMIL) model to automate grading of Castleman disease pathology, and he will examine the feasibility of using an ABMIL model to automatically score histologic features in comparison to human experts.
