Effective August 15, 2022, ARUP Laboratories will consolidate the existing molecular Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) test options into a single test option, Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV-1/HSV-2) Subtype by PCR. This test not only detects HSV but also identifies the subtype (HSV-1 or HSV-2), which is an important factor for clinical decisions regarding treatment. This change aligns with recent guidelines from the CDC.
This change will be published in the August 15, 2022, Quarterly Hotline.
