Mnemonic: ANTI-CARD

Methodology: Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay
Performed: Sun-Sat
Reported: 1-2 days
Specimen Required: Collect:  One 4 mL serum separator tube.

Storage/Transport Temperature:  1 mL serum at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.3 mL)  Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Remarks:  Separate serum from cells ASAP.

Unacceptable Conditions:  Plasma and other body fluids.  Heat-inactivated, hemolyzed, lipemic, or contaminated specimens.

Reference Interval:

Test Number Components Reference Interval
0050901Cardiolipin Antibody, IgG < 15 GPL: Absent or none detected
15-19 GPL: Inconclusive
20-79 GPL: Moderate positive
≥ 80 GPL: High positive
0050902Cardiolipin Antibody, IgM < 12 MPL: Absent or none detected
12-19 MPL: Inconclusive
20-79 MPL: Moderate positive
≥ 80 MPL: High positive

Interpretive Data: Most patients with antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APS) have medium or high levels of anticardiolipin IgG and/or IgM antibodies. All positive results should be retested on two or more occasions and at least 12 weeks apart to confirm persistence (J Thromb Haemost. 2006;4:295-306).
Note: GPL = IgG phospholipid units; MPL = IgM phospholipid units
CPT Code(s): 86147 x2
