Specimen Required: Collect: Serum separator tube.

Specimen Preparation: Allow serum to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1 mL serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.5 mL)

Storage/Transport Temperature: Frozen.

Stability (collection to initiation of testing): After separation from cells: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 72 hours; Frozen: 1 month

Note: This assay measures total tryptase and does not distinguish between the alpha and beta protein types. Samples should preferably be collected between 15 minutes and three hours after the suspected event causing mast cell activation.
