Specimen Required: Patient Prep: Specimens for trough levels should be obtained just before or within 15 minutes of next dose. Specimens for peak levels should be obtained within 15-30 minutes after the end of I.V. infusion, or 45-60 minutes after an IM injection, or 90 minutes after oral intake.

Collect: Plain red, lavender (EDTA), or green (sodium or lithium heparin).

Specimen Preparation: Transfer 1 mL serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.6 mL)

Storage/Transport Temperature: Frozen.

Unacceptable Conditions: Serum separator tubes. Hemolyzed or lipemic specimens.

Stability (collection to initiation of testing): After separation from cells: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 48 hours; Frozen: 6 months
