Specimen Required:  
Collect: One 5 mL plain red or SST.

Transport: 2 mL serum at 2-8°C.  (Min: 0.5 mL)  Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Unacceptable Conditions: Hemolyzed or lipemic specimens.

The methodology is indirect immunofluorescence (IFA) of serum on human split skin substrate for detection of complement-fixing (herpes gestationis factor) and non-complement-fixing IgG basement membrane zone antibodies.

New published information indicates that it is also helpful to order BP 180 (Bullous Pemphigoid 180 kDa Antigen) IgG Antibodies in Serum (0092058) to help determine herpes gestationis.
