Specimen Required:  
Collect: One 5 mL plain red.  Also acceptable: green (sodium heparin).

Transport: 1 mL serum at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.5 mL) Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Pediatric Collection/Transport: 0.5 mL serum or plasma at 2-8°C.

Remarks: Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature.  Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP.

Unacceptable Conditions: Hemolyzed specimens.  Specimens collected in separator tubes, gels, lavender (EDTA), or gray (sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate).

Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 6 weeks; Refrigerated: 6 weeks; Frozen: 1 year

0-2 months: 15.0-30.0 µg/mL
  Toxic: 40.1 µg/mL or greater 
3 months and older: 15.0-40.0 µg/mL
  Toxic: 50.1 µg/mL or greater
