Methodology: Enzyme Immunoassay

Specimen Required:  
Collect: One 4 mL plain red.  Also acceptable: 3 mL green (sodium or lithium heparin).

Transport: 4 mL serum or plasma at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.2 mL)  Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Pediatric Collection/Transport: 0.2 mL serum or plasma at 2-8°C.

Remarks: Remove serum or plasma from cells ASAP.  Specimens should be collected eight to 12 hours (no earlier than six hours) after administration of oral dose.

Unacceptable Conditions: Separator tubes. Hemolyzed specimens. Specimens collected in sodium fluoride or potassium oxalate anticoagulants.

Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 6 months

Reference Interval:
0.8-2.0 ng/mL
Toxic: greater than 2.4 ng/mL

Interpretive Data:
The presence of therapeutic anti-digoxin immune fragments in the specimen may result in spuriously high digoxin levels.
