Specimen Required:  
Collect: One 3 mL SST or plain red.

Transport: 0.5 mL serum at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.2 mL)  Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Pediatric Collection/Transport: 0.2 mL serum at 2-8°C.

Remarks: Separate serum from cells ASAP.  Collect all specimens at the same time of day, as there is a diurnal variation of PINP with the values being higher at night.

Unacceptable Conditions: Hemolyzed or lipemic specimens.

Stability: After separation from cells:  Ambient: 24 hours; Refrigerated: 5 days; Frozen: 2 months

Females:
  Premenopausal: 20-101 µg/L
  Postmenopausal: 16-96 µg/L
