Specimen Required: Collect:  One 4 mL serum separator tube.   Also acceptable: lavender (EDTA), or pink (K2EDTA).

Transport:  2 mL serum or plasma, frozen. (Min: 1.1 mL)  Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Pediatric Collection/Transport:  1.1 mL serum or plasma, frozen.

Remarks:  Fasting specimen is preferred.  Reference intervals established for fasting specimens.

Unacceptable Conditions:  Hemolyzed or heparinized specimens.  Sodium or fluoride/potassium oxalate plasma.

Stability:  After separation from cells: Ambient: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 1 month

Interpretive Data: This assay reacts on a nearly equimolar basis with the analogs insulin aspart, insulin glargine, and insulin lispro. To convert to pmol/L, multiply µIU/mL by 6.0.
