Testosterone, Bioavailable & Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (Includes Total Testosterone), Adult Male : 0070102

Mnemonic: BIO T

Methodology: Electrochemiluminescent Immunoassay
The concentrations of free and bioavailable testosterone are derived from mathematical expressions based on constants for the binding of testosterone to albumin and/or sex hormone binding globulin.
Performed: Sun-Sat
Reported: Within 24 hours
Specimen Required: Collect:  One 4 mL serum separator tube or green (lithium heparin). Specimen should be collected between 6-10 a.m.

Transport:  2 mL serum or plasma at 2-8°C.  (Min: 0.6 mL)  Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Pediatric Collection/Transport:  0.4 mL serum or plasma at 2-8°C.

Unacceptable Conditions:  EDTA plasma.

Stability:  After separation from cells: Ambient: 2 days; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 2 months

Interpretive Data: The concentrations of free and bioavailable testosterone are derived from mathematical expressions based on constants for the binding of testosterone to albumin and/or sex hormone binding globulin.
Note: Bioavailable testosterone includes free plus weakly bound (non-SHBG bound) testosterone.  Bioavailable testosterone is an assessment of the biologically active testosterone in serum.

Please refer to individual components for stability of sample for this test.  This test is not recommended for females or children.  For testing on females or children refer to Testosterone, Bioavailable & Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (Includes Total Testosterone), Females or Children (0081057).
