| 0065070: Aerobic Organism Identification with Reflex to Susceptibility |
| Test Mnemonic: MC ORGIS | |
|
#ExistMethodology>
Methodology: Standard reference procedures for aerobic bacterial identification and/or 16s rDNA sequencing for select bacterial isolates and susceptibility tests.
*ExistMethodology> #ExistPerformed> Performed: Sun-Sat *ExistPerformed> #ExistReported> Reported: Varies *ExistReported> |
| Specimen Required: | |
|
#ExistCollect>
Collect: Actively growing organism, in pure culture, on agar slant or on a swab in bacterial transport media. Source of specimen is required.
*ExistCollect> #ExistTransport> Transport: Sealed container at 20-25°C. Submit specimen according to Infectious Substance, Category A, shipping guidelines. *ExistTransport> #ExistPedCollectTransport> Pediatric Collection/Transport: Submit specimen according to Infectious Substance, Category A, shipping guidelines. *ExistPedCollectTransport> #ExistRemarks> Remarks: Indicate source of organism and any other pertinent information, including a warning if organism is suspected to be a dangerous pathogen (Brucella, Francisella, etc.). The selection and extent of tests used for identification vary according to the specimen source, and the type of organism suspected. The susceptibility method and antibiotic panel will be selected based on organism identification. (Refer to Antimicrobial Susceptibility.) Susceptibility testing will not be performed if inappropriate for source and/or organism. *ExistRemarks> #ExistConditions> Unacceptable Conditions: Nonviable organisms, mixed cultures, or leaking containers. *ExistConditions> #ExistStability> Stability: Ambient: 1 week; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: Unacceptable *ExistStability> |
|
| Reference Interval: |
| #ExistRefRange> Complete identification, with susceptibility of clinically significant isolates. *ExistRefRange> |
| Note: | |
|
If a significant organism is identified, then the appropriate susceptibility panel will be added. Identification of referred isolates is performed and billed by the extent of tests required for identification. Susceptibility testing is billed separately. An additional handling fee will be billed for all mixed cultures as indicated in the specimen requirements. |
