Collect: Buccal mucosa, eye, genital, rectal, throat or vesicle swab, or bronchoalveolar lavage, tissue or vesicle fluid.
Specimen Preparation: Do not freeze. Immediately place vesicle fluid, swab, or tissue in viral transport media.
Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated.
Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.
Remarks: Specimen source preferred.
Unacceptable Conditions: Blood, CSF, plasma, or serum. Calcium alginate, dry, or wood swabs.
Stability (collection to initiation of testing): Ambient: 2 hours; Refrigerated: 72 hours; Frozen: Unacceptable
