Collect: Stool. Preserve in enteric transport media (Cary-Blair).  ARUP Supply #29799.

Transport: 5 g stool in a clean, leak-proof container or in enteric transport media at 2-8°C. (Min: 1 g)

Unacceptable Conditions: Samples preservatives other than Cary-Blair.

Stability: Ambient: 1 hour; Refrigerated: 2 days; Frozen: 1 week
Preserved: Refrigerated: 1 week

Negative

Interpretive Data:
A positive result is indicative of the presence of lactoferrin, a marker for fecal leukocytes.  A negative result does not exclude the presence of intestinal inflammation.
