Antimicrobial Susceptibility - Anaerobe : 0060202

Methodology: Broth Microdilution

Reported: 2-4 days
Specimen Required: Collect:  Actively growing isolated organism in pure culture, on slant in anaerobic transport pouch or swab in anaerobic transport media.  Source of specimen required.

Transport:  Sealed container at 20-25°C.

Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.


Pediatric Collection/Transport:  

Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.


Unacceptable Conditions:  Mixed cultures, nonviable organisms, or aerobic conditions.

Stability:  Ambient: 3 days; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: Unacceptable
Reference Interval:
Susceptible or resistant.
Note: Anaerobic susceptibility testing is appropriate in the case of serious infections involving blood, bone, joint, tissue, or brain abscess.

An additional handling fee will be billed for all organisms submitted that are not in pure culture as indicated in the specimen requirements.

The following agents will be tested: ampicillin/sulbactam, cefoxitin, clindamycin, meropenem, metronidazole, and penicillin G. Selective reporting by organism and source. Antibiotics other than those listed are available as an individual MIC by request only.
