| Specimen Required: |
Collect: Blood (optimum), CSF, body fluids, abscess, aspirate, tissues. Source of specimen is preferred.
Transport: Blood in sterile SPS Vacutainer® tube, IsolatorTM tube or Bactec® Blood Culture bottles; sterile container (others) at 20-25°C.
Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.
Pediatric Collection/Transport: 1.5 mL Isolator™ tube or SPS Vacutainer® tube if source is blood.
Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.
Remarks: SPS tubes (ARUP Supply #24964) and IsolatorTM tubes (ARUP Supply #24963) are available from ARUP.
Unacceptable Conditions: Nonsterile or leaking containers, swabs, clotted blood samples, specimens submitted in anticoagulant other than SPS.
