Specimen Required: Collect:  One 4 mL serum separator tube.

Transport:  0.5 mL serum at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.5 mL) Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.


Pediatric Collection/Transport:  0.1 mL serum at 2-8°C.

Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.


Remarks:  EDTA, heparin or citrated plasma is also acceptable.  Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP.

Unacceptable Conditions:  Hemolyzed specimens.  Specimens containing particulate material.

Stability:  After separation from cells: Ambient: Up to 1 week is acceptable but not preferred; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: Indefinitely (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)

Interpretive Data: ARUP intends use of this assay for clinical diagnosis.  This assay should not be used for blood donor screening, associated re-entry protocols, or for screening Human Cell, Tissues and Cellular and Tissue-Based Products (HCT/P).
Note: *Performed and Reported times indicated are for screening of the anti-HTLV.  If HTLV I/II screen is repeatedly reactive, then HTLV I/II Confirmation by Western Blot will be added.
