0050980: Humoral Immunity Panel I

Test Mnemonic: HUMPAN I
Methodology: Nephelometry/Multi-Analyte Fluorescent Detection

Performed: Mon-Sat

Reported: 1-3 days

Specimen Required:
Collect: Two 4 mL SST or one 10 mL SST.

Transport: Four 1 mL aliquots of serum at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.7 mL per aliquot)  Submit specimens in four ARUP Standard Transport Tubes.

Pediatric Collection/Transport: 0.75 mL aliquot of serum at 2-8°C.

Remarks: Separate serum from cells ASAP. "Pre" and "post" diphtheria/tetanus and pneumococcal vaccine specimens should be submitted together for testing. "Post" specimen should be drawn 30 days after immunization and, if shipped separately, must be received within 60 days of "pre" specimen. PLEASE CLEARLY MARK SPECIMENSS "PRE-VACCINE" OR "POST-VACCINE" SO THAT SPECIMENS WILL BE SAVED AND TESTED SIMULTANEOUSLY.

Unacceptable Conditions: Plasma.

Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 2 hours; Refrigerated: 8 days; Frozen: 1 year (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles). (Refer to individual components for further information.)

Reference Interval:

Test Number Components Reference Interval
0050210Diphtheria Antibody, IgG Antibody concentration of  > 0.1 IU/mL is usually considered protective.
0050535Tetanus Antibody, IgG Antibody concentration of > 0.1 IU/mL is usually considered protective.
0050725Streptococcus pneumoniae Antibodies, IgG (14 serotypes) Includes Serotypes 1, 3, 4*, 5, 6B*, 7F, 8, 9N, 9V*, 12F, 14*, 18C*, 19F*, 23F*

All serotypes tested are present in the 23-valent pure polysaccharide pneumococcal vaccine.  The serotypes marked with an asterisk are contained in the conjugated pneumococcal vaccine.

This assay is designed to use both "pre" and "post" samples to assess immune responsiveness to vaccination.  This test is not designed to determine protection to Streptococcus pneumoniae based on a single sample.
