Specimen Required: Collect: One 4 mL serum separator tube.

Storage/Transport Temperature: 2 mL serum at 2-8°C. (Min: 1 mL) Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Remarks: Allow serum to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum from cells ASAP. Acute and convalescent specimens must be labeled as such; parallel testing is preferred and convalescent specimens must be received within 30 days from receipt of the acute specimens. Please mark specimen plainly as "acute" or "convalescent." Serum from umbilical cord blood is an acceptable specimen type.

Unacceptable Conditions: Refer to individual components.

Stability (collection to initiation of testing): After separation from cells: Ambient: 2 days; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 1 year (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)

1.10 IV or greater: Positive - IgG antibody to HSV detected which may indicate a current or past HSV infection.

10 IU/mL or greater: Positive - IgG antibody to rubella detected, which may indicate a current or previous exposure/immunization to rubella.

7-8 IU/mL: Equivocal - Repeat testing in 10-14 days may be helpful.
9 IU/mL or greater: Positive - Significant level of Toxoplasma gondii IgG antibody detected, which may indicate current or past infection.
