Specimen Required: Patient Prep:  Fasting specimen preferred.

Collect:  One 4 mL serum separator tube. Also acceptable: lavender (EDTA), pink (K2EDTA), or green (sodium or lithium heparin).

Storage/Transport Temperature:  0.5 mL serum or plasma at 2-8°C.  (Min: 0.5 mL) Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Remarks:  Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature before centrifuging.  Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP.

Unacceptable Conditions:  Hemolyzed specimens.

Stability (collection to initiation of testing):  After separation from cells: Ambient: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 3 days; Frozen: 6 months
