Specimen Required:  
Collect: One 6 mL plain red. Let stand on clot for two hours.

Transport: 1 mL serum, frozen. (Min: 0.5 mL)  Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Pediatric Collection/Transport: 0.15 mL serum, frozen.

Remarks: CRITICAL FROZEN. Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered.  If ordered in conjunction with a Raji Cell Assay, draw two 6 mL plain red tubes and submit two 1 mL frozen serum specimens for testing. Repeated freeze/thaw cycles should be avoided.

Unacceptable Conditions: Nonfrozen specimens.

Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 2 hours; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: 2 weeks

Reference Interval:
Less than 4 µgE/mL is considered negative for circulating complement binding immune complexes.

Interpretive Data:
Circulating immune complexes may be found without any evident pathology and positive results do not necessarily implicate the immune complex in a disease process.
