Specimen Required: Collect:  One 4 mL serum separator tube or plasma separator tube. Also acceptable: green (lithium heparin) or lavender (EDTA) plasma.

Transport:  0.5 mL serum or plasma, frozen.  (Min: 0.2 mL)  Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Remarks:  Fasting specimen preferred.  Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature.  Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP.

Unacceptable Conditions:  Hemolyzed specimens.

Stability:  After separation from cells: Ambient: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 3 days; Frozen: 1 month
