Specimen Required: Collect: Serum separator tube.

Specimen Preparation: Allow specimen to clot for 30 to 60 minutes at room temperature. Separate serum from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 4 mL serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube and freeze immediately. (Min: 2 mL)

Storage/Transport Temperature: Frozen.

Unacceptable Conditions: Plasma. Specimens left to clot while refrigerated. Contaminated, hemolyzed, or severely lipemic specimens.

Stability (collection to initiation of testing): After separation from cells: Ambient: 1 hour; Refrigerated: 24 hours, Frozen: 2 weeks

Note: Initial testing includes RF, C3, C4, and ANA. Specimens are screened for ANA using ELISA. If antibodies are detected, then an IFA titer will be added. If confirmed by IFA, then specimen will be tested for dsDNA antibody, TPO, Scl-70, and ENA (RNP, Smith, SSA, and SSB) antibodies. Additional charges apply.
