Specimen Required:  
Collect: One 7 mL SST or one 7 mL green (sodium or lithium heparin).

Transport: 2 mL serum or plasma at 2-8°C.  (Min: 1 mL)  Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Pediatric Collection/Transport: 0.5 mL serum or plasma at 2-8°C.

Remarks: Separate serum from cells ASAP and refrigerate or freeze.  Fasting specimen is recommended.

Unacceptable Conditions: Specimens collected in EDTA, sodium fluoride, or potassium oxalate.  Grossly hemolyzed specimens.

Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 1 hour; Refrigerated: 1 week (total activity will increase 2% per day); Frozen: 1 year

Heat-stable isoenzymes, such as the one produced during pregnancy, will interfere with the interpretation of this assay.
