Glomerular Filtration Rate, Estimated : 0020725

Mnemonic: GFRE

Methodology: Spectrophotometry
Performed: Sun-Sat
Reported: Within 24 hours
Specimen Required: Collect:  One 4 mL plasma separator tube or serum separator tube.

Transport:  1 mL plasma or serum at 2-8°C.  (Min: 0.2 mL)  Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube

Pediatric Collection/Transport:  0.2 mL plasma or serum at 2-8°C.

Remarks:  Allow serum to clot completely at room temperature.  Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP.

Unacceptable Conditions:  Specimens obtained through catheters used to infuse hyperalimentation fluid.  Specimens in potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride or sodium citrate tubes.

Stability:  After separation from cells: Ambient: 4 hours; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 6 months

Calculation By report

Interpretive Data: To estimate the glomerular filtration rate for African Americans, multiply the result provided by 1.21. The equation used to estimate the glomerular filtration rate has only been validated for patients 18 to 70 years of age.
