Specimen Required: Collect:  One 6 mL serum separator tube.

Transport:  3 mL serum at 2-8°C. (Min: 2.5 mL)  Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Pediatric Collection/Transport:  1.5 mL serum at 2-8°C.

Remarks:  Separate serum from cells ASAP.

Unacceptable Conditions:  Plasma, heat-inactivated, grossly hemolyzed or lipemic specimens.  Specimens containing particulate material.

Stability:  Ambient: Up to 24 hours is acceptable, but not preferred; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: Indefinitely (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)

Note: Order this panel when the patient is known to have chronic hepatitis B infection. This panel determines the degree of infection and monitors the development of immunity. If results for HBsAg are repeatedly reactive and between 1.00 and 5.00 AU, then HBsAg Confirmation will be added.
