Specimen Required: Collect:  One 4 mL serum separator tube.

Storage/Transport Temperature:  1.2 mL serum at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.6 mL) Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Remarks:  Potassium EDTA plasma is also acceptable. Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP.

Unacceptable Conditions:  Specimens containing particulate material. Severely hemolyzed or lipemic specimens. Heat-inactivated specimens. Heparinized plasma

Stability (collection to initiation of testing):  After separation from cells: Ambient: Unacceptable; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: Indefinitely (avoid freeze/thaw cycles)

Less than 10.00  IU/L: Negative
Greater than or equal to 10.00  IU/L: Positive
Interpretive Data: Result greater than or equal to 10.00 IU/L implies immunity.  For post-hepatitis B vaccine antibody testing guidelines for the general public, refer to MMWR 1990;39(S2):1-23;  and for health care workers refer to MMWR 1997;46 (No. RR-18).
Note: Results greater than 1,000.00 IU/L are reported as 1,000.00 IU/L
