Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test
	BCL*	matches bcl-1/JH and bcl-2/JH
	virus*	matches virus or viruses

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

Reported:	Within 24 hours
Specimen Required:	Collect: Serum separator tube. Also acceptable: Lavender (EDTA) or pink (K₂EDTA). Specimen Preparation: Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1 mL serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.5 mL) Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated. Unacceptable Conditions: Heparinized plasma. Specimens containing particulate material. Heat-inactivated , severely hemolyzed, or lipemic specimens. Stability (collection to initiation of testing): After separation from cells: Ambient: Unacceptable; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: Indefinitely (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)

Reference Interval: Less than 10.00 IU/L: Negative Greater than or equal to 10.00 IU/L: Positive
Interpretive Data:	Result greater than or equal to 10.00 IU/L implies immunity. For post-hepatitis B vaccine antibody testing guidelines for the general public, refer to MMWR 1990;39(S2):1-23; and for health care workers refer to MMWR 1997;46 (No. RR-18).
Note:	Results greater than 1,000.00 IU/L are reported as greater than 1,000.00 IU/L
