Specimen Required:  
Collect: One 4 mL PST or SST.

Transport: 1 mL plasma or serum at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.5 mL) Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Pediatric Collection/Transport: 0.2 mL plasma or serum at 2-8°C.

Remarks: Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP.

Unacceptable Conditions: Hemolyzed specimens.  Specimens containing sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate as anticoagulants.

Stability: After separation from cells: Ambient: 24 hours; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 6 months

0-7 days: 96-111 mmol/L
8 days-6 months: 96-110 mmol/L
7-11 months: 96-108 mmol/L
1 year and older: 98-107 mmol/L
