The latest edition of Magnify: The Art and Science of Diagnostic Medicine, is now available online. It features articles, videos, and other resources detailing ARUP’s response to the FDA’s final rule to regulate laboratory-developed tests (LDTs).

The newly published issue of the biannual magazine features video interviews with several of ARUP’s leaders, including Jonathan Genzen, MD, PhD, MBA, chief medical officer and senior director of governmental affairs, who describe ARUP’s approaches to comply with the rule and offer some thought-provoking questions on the future of lab regulation.

In this edition:

  • Find out how ARUP is sharing what we learn about the FDA’s final rule and how we are assisting labs in whatever ways they need help to comply with the rule, even while lawsuits challenging the rule move through the court.
  • Watch as a Utah family details their diagnostic journey after their young son rapidly lost muscle strength. The family was in and out of hospitals and doctors’ offices until a rheumatologist ordered testing at ARUP that helped diagnose the boy’s rare disease. Hear him describe juvenile dermatomyositis and his road to recovery.
  • Learn about ARUP’s first-of-its-kind myeloid malignancy mutation panel, which reports both genomewide copy number variant (CNV)/copy number-neutral loss of heterozygosity (CN-LOH) and targeted gene analysis in a single assay, providing disease-defining information that informs patient care.
  • Read how ARUP Healthcare Advisory Services helped Fairview Health Services develop a robust laboratory stewardship committee that relies on data to inform high-priority initiatives.
  • Meet Dan Albertson, MD, president of ARUP’s University Business Unit, and learn how he plans to rely on his and his colleagues’ clinical practice and expertise to continuously improve care for the patients at University of Utah Health and Huntsman Cancer Institute and to share that knowledge with hospitals and health systems across the country.

These and other articles in the Fall 2024 edition of Magnify are available here, where you will also find previous issues.
