ARUP’s experts will be available at booth #1404 to discuss the latest advancements in infectious disease testing.
ARUP Laboratories’ medical directors and scientists will present their latest research at the upcoming annual conference of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), which will be held June 19–23, 2025, in Los Angeles. The conference, ASM Microbe 2025, provides an opportunity for the microbial science community to share knowledge and discuss the latest findings.
ARUP experts will present on a variety of topics, including metagenomic next generation sequencing (mNGS), molecular HIV testing, infectious serology, and unusual or complex patient cases.
Benjamin Bradley, MD, PhD, medical director of ARUP’s Institute for Research and Innovation in Infectious Disease Genomic Technologies, High Consequence Pathogen Response, Virology, and Molecular Infectious Diseases, will present the latest on an agreement study to compare mNGS and multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in their ability to diagnose central nervous system infections.
Blaine Mathison, BS, M(ASCP), technical director of Parasitology, will present on an unusual case of ocular dirofilariasis and provide in-depth information on the epidemiology, clinical presentation, and microbiology of Dirofilaria.
Patricia Slev, PhD, medical director of Immunology, will provide an in-depth exploration of the latest advancements in infectious serology used to diagnose and manage infections, including emerging trends and technologies.
ARUP Laboratories will also have an exhibit on the latest advancements in laboratory testing for infectious diseases. Conference attendees will have an opportunity to test their parasite knowledge, speak with ARUP experts, and learn about the latest advancements in laboratory testing and technology in infectious diseases.
One advancement in infectious disease testing is the expansion of ARUP’s groundbreaking artificial intelligence (AI)-screening tool to include wet-mount slides for the detection of gastrointestinal parasites. ARUP first implemented its AI tool in 2019 to screen for gastrointestinal parasites in trichrome-stained slides. Since the initial launch of the tool, validation studies have demonstrated that the addition of AI screening improves sensitivity, limit of detection, and diagnostic yield.
