February 27, 2026

Tracy George, MD, president of ARUP Laboratories’ Innovation Business Unit (IBU), will highlight ARUP’s mission to improve patient care and advance diagnostic innovation as a featured speaker at the annual Evening of Hope hosted by Recursion on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 5 p.m. The event is held in recognition of Rare Disease Day, observed on the last day of February, to raise awareness and generate change for the 300 million people living with a rare disease worldwide.

George, who is also ARUP’s chief scientific officer, is a longtime champion for patients with rare and undiagnosed conditions. She is a world-renowned hematopathologist and one of the leading global experts in mast cell disease. As president of the IBU, she unifies and accelerates ARUP’s research and innovation strategy. Under her leadership, the newly established Innovation Central Laboratory provides a dedicated environment for early-stage diagnostic development, enabling ARUP and partners in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries to translate novel ideas into commercially viable solutions that support patients and the rare disease community.

“The Innovation Central Laboratory allows us to pioneer new technologies and rapidly develop cutting-edge diagnostic tests in a controlled, small-scale environment, allowing us to refine them, validate their impact, and ultimately bring life-changing solutions for patients,” George said.

The IBU also drives progress in companion diagnostics (CDx) development, clinical trials testing, artificial intelligence (AI)-powered diagnostics and digital pathology, and custom assay design. Learn more about the IBU.

Recursion’s Evening of Hope brings together advocacy groups, biotech innovators, scientists, and individuals affected by rare and undiagnosed diseases for an evening of connection, education, and inspiration. This will be George’s third year speaking at the event. Previous Evenings of Hope have featured leaders from organizations such as the Rare and Undiagnosed Network, BioUtah, and the Utah Rare Disease Advisory Council, along with patients and caregivers who have shared their diagnostic journeys.

Register for the Evening of Hope.
