Pain Management Screen Panel Comparisons
There are multiple methods of drug screening: rapid point-of-care cup, lab immunoassays, and high-resolution screen by time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometry. The cutoff values for each drug in each of the screens are listed in the table below. Urine screen by lab immunoassays includes sample validity testing by creatinine.

Option to Reflex to Quantitative Confirmation [see cutoffs of confirmation] |
||||
| Screen + Positive Results Confirmed by GC-MS or LC-MS/MS | No |
Yes, for 9 panel 0092186;
for 9A (Alcohol) panel 0092187 |
Yes, 0092420 |
No confirmation required unless for quantification. Call ASAP if confirmation is desired. |
| When the “Reflex to Quantitative Confirmation” option is ordered, we will automatically retest the specimen by mass spectrometry for the drug(s) found positive in the screen. Note that confirmation testing will not occur if the screen is negative. If you know, or suspect the patient is taking a specific drug, and wish to have the drug tested quantitatively even if the screen is negative, please order together (1) the “Reflex to Quantitative Confirmation” option for the screen AND (2) the quantitative test for the specific drug. If the screen is positive for that drug, we will automatically cancel the duplicated test. | ||||
