Ebola Virus Disease, one of numerous viral hemorrhagic fevers, is a severe, often fatal disease in humans and nonhuman primates. Any laboratory testing requested on specimens from suspected Ebola patients should not be sent to ARUP but should be held until results for Ebola testing are confirmed as negative by the CDC.

Enterovirus

Enterovirus Detection by PCR (ARUP Test Code 0050249)

ARUP offers 0050249 Enterovirus Detection by PCR, which can detect enterovirus D68; however, this test will not distinguish D68 from a broad range of other enteroviruses. NP swabs in VTM are acceptable for this test. Respiratory fluids can be tested with a suboptimal specimen disclaimer upon client approval.
