Transport:

Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.

Pediatric Collection/Transport:

Submit specimen according to Biological Substance, Category B, shipping guidelines.

Remarks: This test requires a ThinPrep® Pap Test special collection kit that must be ordered separately through ARUP Client Services at (800) 522-2787 or (801) 583-2787.  Human Papillomavirus (HPV) DNA Probe testing can be performed on the PreservCyt® Solution vial, refer to Human Papillomavirus (HPV) DNA Probe, High Risk (0065999), or Cytology, ThinPrep® Pap with Reflex to Human Papillomavirus (HPV) DNA Probe, High Risk (8100212).

Unacceptable Conditions: Samples not collected in a ThinPrep® Pap Test special collection kit or samples submitted in an expired collection kit.  Refer to specimen rejection in the Cytopathology section in the front of this User's Guide.

Stability: PreservCyt® Solution preserves cells for up to three weeks at temperatures between 4°C and 37°C.

Note:
Store PreservCyt® Solution without cytologic samples at 15°C to 30°C in the vials provided.  Do not use PreservCyt® Solution beyond expiration date marked on the vial.

WARNING:  PreservCyt® Solution contains methanol which is poisonous and may be fatal or cause blindness if swallowed. Vapor is harmful if inhaled.  Causes eye and skin irritation.  PreservCyt® is flammable; keep away from fire, heat, sparks and flame.  Other solutions must not be substituted for PreservCyt® Solution.  PreservCyt® Solution should be stored and disposed of in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
