Specimen Required: Collect: Serum separator tube.

Specimen Preparation: Separate serum from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 0.5 mL serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.15 mL)

Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated.

Unacceptable Conditions: Urine or plasma. Contaminated, heat-inactivated, severely hemolyzed or severely lipemic specimens.

Stability (collection to initiation of testing): After separation from cells: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 1 year (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)

20-39 Units Equivocal
40 Units or greater Positive

Interpretive Data: The presence of the anti-C1q IgG antibody may be associated with increased risk of lupus nephritis or with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) global activity. Anti-C1q antibodies are not specific for SLE; strong clinical correlation with disease is recommended.
