Search Tips

Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test
	BCL*	matches bcl-1/JH and bcl-2/JH
	virus*	matches virus or viruses
	*glucan*	matches beta-1,3-d-Glucan

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

"tissue assay "

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

The following boolean connectors can be used: AND, OR, NOT Examples:

tissue AND assay	Both words must be present
tissue OR assay	Either word can be present
assay NOT tissue	Only assay can be present, tissue cannot appear on the page

Methodology:	Immunoassay, Enzymatic/High Performance Liquid Chromatography

Specimen Required:	Patient Prep: Patient must be 18 years of age or older. Patient should fast for at least 10 hours prior to collection. Collect: Serum separator tube AND lavender (EDTA). Serum separator tube should be collected before EDTA tube. ARUP Standard Transport Tube should be frozen prior to collection. Specimen Preparation: Serum: Gently invert 5 times following collection; allow specimen to clot at least 30-40 minutes (not more than 60) in a vertical position at room temperature. Centrifuge for 15-20 minutes between 1100 g and 1300 g. Transfer 3 mL serum to a FROZEN ARUP Standard Transport Tube and freeze immediately. (Min: 1 mL) EDTA Whole Blood: Gently invert 8-10 times following collection. Transfer 3 mL whole blood to a FROZEN ARUP Standard Transport Tube and freeze immediately. (Min: 1 mL) Storage/Transport Temperature: CRITICAL FROZEN. Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered. Unacceptable Conditions: Hemolyzed specimens. Specimens from patients less than 18 years of age. Stability (collection to initiation of testing): Ambient: Unacceptable; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: 1 week
