Search Tips

Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test
	BCL*	matches bcl-1/JH and bcl-2/JH
	virus*	matches virus or viruses
	*glucan*	matches beta-1,3-d-Glucan

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

"tissue assay "

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

The following boolean connectors can be used: AND, OR, NOT Examples:

tissue AND assay	Both words must be present
tissue OR assay	Either word can be present
assay NOT tissue	Only assay can be present, tissue cannot appear on the page

Patient History For Cytogenetic (Chromosome) Studies

Methodology:	Fluorescence in situ Hybridization
Performed:	Sun-Sat
Reported:	3-10 days
Specimen Required:	Collect: Non-diluted bone marrow collected in a heparinized syringe. Also acceptable: Green (sodium heparin). Other specimen types may be acceptable, contact the Cytogenetics Laboratory for specific specimen collection and transportation instructions. Specimen Preparation: Transfer 3 mL bone marrow to a green (sodium heparin) (Min: 1 mL). OR transport 10 mL whole blood (Min: 2 mL). Storage/Transport Temperature: Room temperature. Remarks: It is recommended that all FISH studies be done in conjunction with routine cytogenetic analysis. (Refer to appropriate Chromosome Analysis test for order instructions). If FISH only is requested, please include copy of previous cytogenetics report. If cell pellets or dropped cytogenetics slides are not submitted, a processing fee will apply. This test must be ordered using Cytogenetic test request form #43099 or through your ARUP interface. Submit the Patient History for Cytogenetics (Chromosome) Studies form with the electronic packing list (available at http://www.aruplab.com/genetics/forms.php). Unacceptable Conditions: Frozen specimens. Paraffin-embedded specimens. Clotted specimens. Stability (collection to initiation of testing): Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: Unacceptable

Interpretive Data:	Probes included: BCR/ABL, PDGFR-alpha, PDGFR-beta, and, FGFR1. Refer to Statement A under Testing Information at http://www.aruplab.com.
Note:	A processing fee will be charged if this procedure is canceled, at the client's request, after the test has been set up, or if the specimen integrity is inadequate to allow culture growth. The fee will vary based on specimen type.
