Search Tips

Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test
	BCL*	matches bcl-1/JH and bcl-2/JH
	virus*	matches virus or viruses
	*glucan*	matches beta-1,3-d-Glucan

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

"tissue assay "

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

The following boolean connectors can be used: AND, OR, NOT Examples:

tissue AND assay	Both words must be present
tissue OR assay	Either word can be present
assay NOT tissue	Only assay can be present, tissue cannot appear on the page

Patient History For Cytogenetic (Chromosome) Studies

Specimen Required:	Collect: Any specimen type for oncology studies other than peripheral blood, bone marrow, and solid tumors. Thaw media prior to tissue inoculation. Collect tissue in a sterile, screw-top container filled with tissue culture transport medium (ARUP Supply #32788). Available online through eSupply using ARUP Connect™ or contact ARUP Client Services at (800) 522-2787. If no transport media is available, collect in plain RPMI, Hanks solution, saline, or ringers. Collect pleural or other body fluids in a green (sodium heparin). Contact ARUP Genetics Processing for other specimen types or information and specific collection and transportation instructions. Specimen Preparation: DO NOT FREEZE. Do not place in formalin. Tissues: Transport 10 mm biopsy in a sterile, screw-top container filled with tissue culture transport media. Fluid: Transport 5 mL fluid in original collection tube. Storage/Transport Temperature: Room temperature. Remarks: This test must be ordered using Cytogenetic test request form #43099 or through your ARUP interface. Submit the Patient History for Cytogenetic (Chromosome) Studies form with the electronic packing list (available at http://www.aruplab.com/genetics/forms.php). Unacceptable Conditions: Frozen specimens. Tissue submitted in formalin. Stability (collection to initiation of testing): Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: Unacceptable

Note:	These studies involve culturing of living cells; therefore, turnaround times given represent average times which are subject to multiple variables. After specimen receipt, results are generally available in an average of 10 days. A processing fee will be charged if this procedure is canceled at the client's request, after the test has been set up, or if the specimen integrity is inadequate to allow culture growth. The fee will vary based on specimen type.
