Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test
	BCL*	matches bcl-1/JH and bcl-2/JH
	virus*	matches virus or viruses
	*glucan*	matches beta-1,3-d-Glucan

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

"tissue assay "

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

The following boolean connectors can be used: AND, OR, NOT Examples:

tissue AND assay	Both words must be present
tissue OR assay	Either word can be present
assay NOT tissue	Only assay can be present, tissue cannot appear on the page

Specimen Required:	Collect: Thaw media prior to tissue inoculation. Skin biopsy in a sterile, screw-top container filled with tissue culture transport medium (ARUP Supply # 32788) Available online through eSupply using ARUP Connect™ or contact ARUP Client Services at (800) 522-2787. If cytogenetics tissue media is not available, collect in plain RPMI, Hanks solution, saline, or ringers. Specimen Preparation: DO NOT FREEZE. Do not place in formalin. Transport a 4 mm skin biopsy in a sterile, screw-top container filled with tissue transport medium. If specimen size is too large for a normal collection tube, a larger sterile container can be used such as a sterile urine cup and can be flooded with several tubes of cytogenetic tissue media. Storage/Transport Temperature: Room temperature. Remarks: This test must be ordered using Cytogenetic test request form #43097 or through your ARUP interface. Submit the Patient History for Cytogenetic (Chromosome) Studies form with the electronic packing list (available at http://www.aruplab.com/genetics/forms.php). Unacceptable Conditions: Frozen specimens. Specimens preserved in formalin. Stability (collection to initiation of testing): Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: Unacceptable

Interpretive Data:	Counseling and informed consent are recommended for genetic testing. Consent forms are available online at www.aruplab.com.
Note:	These studies involve culturing of living cells; therefore, turnaround times given represent average times which are subject to multiple variables. After specimen receipt, results are generally available in an average of 14 days. A processing fee will be charged if this procedure is canceled at the client's request, after the test has been set up, or if the specimen integrity is inadequate to allow culture growth.
