Salmonella typhi Antibodies : 2001586

Ordering Recommendation: May be used to determine past exposure to S. typhii (eg, infection or vaccination) and S. paratyphi. This test cannot be used to confirm acute salmonellosis. If systemic symptoms of acute salmonellosis are present, the preferred tests are Stool Culture and E. coli Shiga-like Toxin by EIA (0060134) and Blood Culture (0060102) if typhoid fever is suspected.

Specimen Required: Collect: Serum separator tube.

Specimen Preparation: Transfer 1 mL serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.2 mL)

Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated.

Unacceptable Conditions: Contaminated, heat-inactivated, hemolytic, icteric, lipemic, or turbid specimens.

Stability (collection to initiation of testing): After separation from cells: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 1 year (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)
