Specimen Required: Collect: Fine needle aspiration in saline. Also acceptable: Non-viscous body fluids. Also acceptable: Specimens collected in green (sodium or lithium heparin) or lavender (EDTA).

Specimen Preparation: Specimen must be non-viscous and free of particulate matter. Centrifuge to remove cellular material. Transport 0.5 mL saline needle rinse. (Min: 0.5 mL)

Storage/Transport Temperature: Frozen.

Remarks: Indicate source on test request form.

Unacceptable Conditions: Breast milk and, salivary fluid. Specimens too viscous to be aspirated by the instrument.

Stability (collection to initiation of testing): Ambient: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 24 hours; Frozen: 6 months

A reference interval has not been established for body fluid specimens.
Interpretive Data: Parathyroid hormone (PTH) is measured by Roche electrochemiluminescent immunoassay. This test is FDA cleared but is not labeled for use with FNA fluid. The performance characteristics of this test were determined by ARUP.
