Specimen Required: Patient Prep:  Refrain from consuming alcohol 24 hours prior to draw.

Collect:  One 4 mL plain red or serum separator tube.  (Min: 1.5 mL)  Also acceptable: lavender (EDTA) or pink (K2 EDTA).

Storage/Transport Temperature:  2.5 mL serum, or plasma, frozen.  (Min: 1.1 mL) Submit specimen in an ARUP Amber Transport Tube.  Protect from light during collection, storage, and shipment.

Remarks:  Draw specimen following an overnight (12-hour) fast.  Patient should not consume alcohol for one day prior to blood draw.  Avoid hemolysis.  Protect from light during collection, storage, and shipment.  Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered.

Stability (collection to initiation of testing):  After separation from cells: Ambient: Unacceptable; Refrigerated: 1 month; Frozen: 6 months
