Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

"tissue assay "

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

Specimen Required:	Collect: CSF. Specimen Preparation: Transfer 2 mL CSF to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.15 mL) Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated. Unacceptable Conditions: Contaminated, heat-inactivated, or hemolyzed specimens. Stability (collection to initiation of testing): Ambient: 8 hours; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 1 year (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)

Reference Interval: Less than 1:1
Interpretive Data:	This test is intended to be used as a semi-quantitative means of detecting eastern equine encephalitis virus-specific IgG in CSF samples in which there is a clinical suspicion of eastern equine encephalitis virus infection. A positive result for IgG may suggest current or past infection. This test should not be used solely for quantitative purposes, nor should the results be used without correlation to clinical history or other data. Because other members of the Alphavirus family, such as western equine encephalitis virus, show extensive cross-reactivity with eastern equine encephalitis virus, serologic testing specific for these species should also be performed.
