Patients on oral anticoagulants will have decreased protein free S values. Patients should be off oral anticoagulant therapy for two weeks for accurate measurement of free protein S levels. Decreased levels of protein S free are also associated with DIC, liver disease, pregnancy, and inflammatory syndromes.
