Specimen Required:  
Collect: One 5 mL lt. blue (sodium citrate). Collect specimen between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m.  Refer to the Hemostasis/Thrombosis Specimens section in the front of this User's Guide for specimen collection instructions. Centrifuge and freeze plasma within one hour of collection.

Transport: 1.5 mL platelet-poor plasma, frozen. (Min: 1 mL) Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Remarks: CRITICAL FROZEN.  Additional specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered.

Unacceptable Conditions: Serum.  Hemolyzed specimens.  Specimens that have been thawed and refrozen.

Stability: Ambient: 1 hour; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: 2 months

Reference Interval:
0.0-22.0 IU/mL

Interpretive Data:
The reference interval was established based on fasting samples drawn between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m.  Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor 1 has diurnal variation, with higher values in the morning and decreased values in the afternoon.
