Specimen Required: Collect:  Thaw media prior to transport (DO NOT FREEZE THE SPECIMEN). Solid tumor biopsy: Place in a sterile, screw-top container filled with tissue culture transport medium (cytogenetics tissue media, ARUP Supply # 32788) at 20-25°C. Do not place tissue in formalin.

Transport:  10 mm biopsy in a sterile, screw-top container filled with tissue culture transport medium at 20-25°C.  (Min: 5 mm)

Unacceptable Conditions:  Frozen specimens.  Specimens preserved in formalin.

Stability:  Ambient: 24 hours; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: Unacceptable

Note: These studies involve culturing of living cells; therefore, turnaround times given represent average times which are subject to multiple variables. Hard copy reports are generated following completion of a case.  After specimen receipt, results are generally available in an average of 14 days. A detailed report and a copy of a representative karyotype will follow.

A processing fee will be charged if this procedure is canceled at the client's request, after the test has been set up, or if the sample integrity is inadequate to allow culture growth.
