Specimen Required:  
Collect: Place PTH-related protein cocktail tubes on ice prior to collection.  ARUP Supply #40492.  Collect the whole blood with syringe and transfer to the cocktail tube.  Alternative: If a syringe is not available, collect the blood in a plain red and immediately transfer the sample into the cold cocktail tube.  Mix thoroughly by inversion.  Immediately separate the plasma from cells in a refrigerated centrifuge and transfer into an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Transport: 3.1 mL plasma at 2-8°C.  (Min: 1.1 mL)  Use a PTH-related protein and releasing factor tube. Submit sample in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Unacceptable Conditions: Ambient samples greater than 4 days and refrigerated samples greater than 8 days.

Stability: Ambient: 4 days; Refrigerated: 8 days; Frozen: 3 months
