Specimen Required: Collect: One 5 mL serum separator tube or plain red.

Storage/Transport Temperature: 0.5 mL serum at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.1 mL) Submit specimen in an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.

Remarks: Do not use anticoagulants or preservatives.

Unacceptable Conditions: Hemolyzed or lipemic specimens. Specimens with large clots present or bacterial growth. Specimens collected with anticoagulants or preservatives.

Interpretive Data: Western blot assay for HSP70 (68 kDa), IgG antibody may be utilized in predicting corticosteroid responsiveness in patients with idiopathic rapidly progressive sensorineural hearing loss. Indeterminate results should be repeated using a fresh specimen collected after 10-14 days. Other autoimmune diseases may also produce positive results.
