Specimen Required: Collect: Lavender (EDTA).

Specimen Preparation: Separate plasma from cells within one hour of collection. Transfer 2 mL plasma to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube and freeze immediately. (Min: 2 mL)

Storage/Transport Temperature: CRITICAL FROZEN. Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered.

Unacceptable Conditions: Thawed specimens. Specimens not collected in lavender (EDTA). Specimens not frozen within one hour of collection.

Interpretive Data: This test provides a quantitative determination of Cyclase Activating PTH (CAP) or whole parathyroid hormone (PTH 1-84) and total immunoreactive intact PTH (Total Intact PTH) to aid in the diagnosis of parathyroid disease. 1-84 PTH binds to the PTH/PTHrp receptor and operates through the adenylate cyclase stimulating pathway.
